Broward County Florida Judge Barbara McCarthy gave the son of a wealthy businessman two years probation in the killing of two British businessmen, while in another courtroom a man convicted of killing a pedestrian was given 9 years in jail.

Justice by pocketbook for a judge who was re-elected to her appointed position in August 2010.

Judge Barbara McCarthy was nominated by the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit judicial Nominating Committee and then appointed a Circuit Court Judge by the Governor in 2009. Prior to her Circuit Court appointment, she served as a General Magistrate since 2003.

Cook County Judge Thomas Fecarotta -- Streamwood cop beats driver, gets off with probation

Cook County Judge Thomas Fecarotta released on probation a Streamwood Police officer, James Mandarino, who was convicted of viciously beating and innocent driver he pulled over with his metal, telescopic baton. Mandarino, who was a police officer for more than 15 years, beat Ronald Bell with his baton repeatedly following a traffic stop on March 28, 2010. Mandarino was rightly convicted of aggravated battery and official misconduct. But when it came to sentencing the police officer, Fecarotta gave Mandarino a pass. Mandarino's defense was that he feared that when he pulled Bell over and a passenger Nolan Stalbaum over that day, that Bell was becoming aggressive. Bell was told to exit his SUV, which he did, forced on his knees and Mandarino viciously and brutally assaulted him. All Bell did was raise his arm to ward off the beatings.

The passenger in the vehicle was tasered by Mandarino. Bell was accused of being drunk, but that turned out to be a policeman's lie.

Why was Mandarino released? Is it because of the ethnic identity of the judge and the defendant? Both are Italian.

Was it because Fecarotta is in the judicial system and he sympathizes with police officers, including those who commit crimes?

Mandarino told reporters after winning the release-lottery that he "regretted the incident." But he never apologized to the victim who remains scarred and who received seven stitches on his head.

Fecarotta only convicted Mandarino because the incident was caught on camera. Otherwise, Fecarotta admits he would have let the violent police officer go. "If a picture speaks a thousand words, this video speaks a million," Judge Fecarotta said.

Really judge. This ruling speaks a billion words and hopefully enough votes one day to insure that you never return to the Cook County bench.

A former Oak Lawn police officer, Steven Harrison, pled guilty to one count of official misconduct and was sentenced to two years probation by Cook County Judge Nicholas Ford on Sept. 2, 2008 after he was accused with more than 30 criminal charges last year for allegedly extorting money from Hispanic and ethnic motorists in the Southwest suburban Chicago community. He was also charged with a felony possession of a controlled substance.

Harrison, 26, was arrested on June 20, 2008 after a Chicago police officer witnessed him trading cash for several packets containing heroin at the 47th block of Lake Street. Harrison was free on $100,000 bond from a prior charge that included 23 counts of official misconduct, five counts of theft by deception and three counts of intimidation for allegedly shaking down Hispanic Motorists during his 16 months as an Oak Lawn police officer.

He was arrested on Nov. 6, 2007 after State Police and the Cook County State's Attorney determined he was threatening Hispanics who worked in Alsip, a suburb just south and east of Oak Lawn. He stopped the motorists and threatened to throw them in jail if they did not have cash.

It took the Oak Lawn police more than one year to finally fire him from the job. Oak Lawn has a history of racist practices against ethnic minorities including Hispanics, African Americans and Arabs.

Abbate was the drunk cop who viciously beat, on video, a young female bartender while his buddy watched. The judge, rather than punishing Abbate, released him on probation. Abbate was convicted of aggravated battery but was given only two years probation back in June 2009.
